All businesses are required to register with the New Mexico Taxation & Revenue Department and to obtain an account number for the purposes of paying gross receipts taxes, corporate income taxes, compensating taxes and withholding taxes. Unemployment Compensation Tax Number

Businesses are required to register with the New Mexico Employment Security Division and to obtain an account number for the purpose of paying unemployment Compensation Taxes. This program is administered by the New Mexico Department of Labor. The local office is at:

Environmental Permits

Certain businesses are required to obtain air or water quality permits. There may also be a requirement for a ground water discharge plan if the business is discharging effluent directly or indirectly into the ground. Because requirements for environmental permits vary, the State Economic Development Department maintains a "One-Stop Shop" to assist in answering questions on state permits and other regulatory meters.
