STATE GOVERNMENT |
The state Capitol of New Mexico is Santa Fe. Elected officials are : Governor, Lt. Governor, Secretary of State, Attorney General, State Auditor, Land Commissioner, State Treasurer, Corporation commissioners, and the State Board of Education. The judicial system is structured along traditional lines with magistrate and municipal courts being the lowest level of the system. The New Mexico Legislature is composed of 42 senators and 70 representatives. Legislators are unpaid except for per diem when in session. The Legislature meets for 60 days in odd years and 30 days in even years. The sessions begin in the third week of January.
