Located north of New Mexico State University-Alamogordo Branch on Scenic Drive, this $32 million facility was built in 1999 on 23 acres of the 66-acre lot.  The one-story, 131,000 square foot, 95-bed building was built in the "medical mall concept", designed for medical care that focuses on outpatient service.  The patient will have almost immediate access to 80-90 percent of the services they need right after they enter the hospital lobby.  The emergency room includes 15 beds, plus four trauma beds.  A helipad was built outside the emergency room to make the transfer of patients to specialized treatment more efficient.  General surgical, labor/delivery, nursery, food court, and outdoor patio are some of the other features of this facility.

Payment for the new hospital will come from a 15-year bond issue, not taxes.  Funds have also been designated by the U.S. Federal Government as Holloman Air Force Base's share of the cost of the equipment only, with the remaining costs to be paid by operating revenue and capital reserves of the hospital.
