Marietta Biscuit Company

Marietta Biscuit Company has officially begun production and is off to a successful start! President, Gayle Misterly, and her husband Lou, Chief Financial Officer, of Marietta Biscuit Co., decided to make Alamogordo their home so they could fulfill their dream of having their own bakery where they could be in direct control of production and quality.

Lou Misterly Food Sales, Inc. was established in 1972 by Lou and Gayle Misterly. The Marietta label has long been known as the industry leader of quality products at value pricing. With a former baking and distributing plant in Marietta Oklahoma, and a current distribution facility in Brea, California, they have each chalked up over 35 years of experience in the cookie making business.

The Alamogordo plant is managed under the direction of Gayle Misterly with the assistance of Lou Misterly and Plant General Manager, Mike Hobson. Mike has been in the cookie making business for 38 years. Michael Luke, who has been with Misterly since 2000, will oversee the sales and marketing activities for the bakery. Since the building had some major remodeling and modifications done, it has since become the ideal cookie-making factory for the Marietta team. When asked, “Why did you choose Alamogordo as your new home?” Mike Hobson stated, “Really Alamogordo chose us! The bakery was here and once we visited we were sold on the location and the “friendly” people here. The City of Alamogordo and the Otero County Economic Development Council began work with the previous owners to re-develop the former Presto property. Marietta Biscuit Company, Inc. has now completed the transformation and has a state of the art facility.” He added, "The City of Alamogordo and OCEDC have been great to work with."

The Marietta product line consists of home style chocolate chip, sugar, oatmeal, iced oatmeal, and coconut. They also bake vanilla wafers, gingersnaps, and are transitioning into crème sandwich cookies. Assortments of flavors include vanilla, lemon, duplex, chocolate, banana, strawberry, and peanut butter. Installation is under way for ovens 2 & 3 which will be able to bake snack crackers and other items. They also have the capability to do fruit bars and other bar products which are very popular in today’s market.

Marietta currently employs 60 local people, with plans for between 100 and 125 by next year. If productions go as planned, Marietta will be hiring many more in the years to come! On behalf of OCEDC, we welcome Marietta Biscuit Company to Alamogordo, and we look forward to seeing your continued success!
